common on many stretches of water

COMMON BUZZARD

common everywhere

KESTREL

very common everywhere

PHEASANT

Marais Poitevin and walks around Le Moulin

MOORHEN

common at ponds, ditches, lakesides, etc

COOT

STONE CURLEW

12+ in stubble field south side of D745 east of Coulonges just before (ie west of) turning north towards Les Ajoncs Morelle, Touche-Vache, etc. 30/8

GREEN SANDPIPER

3 at lakeside on road to Vernoux 29/8

COMMON SANDPIPER

CURLEW

seen from car in a field on return from Marais Poitevin

BLACK HEADED GULL

many at Marais Poitevin, Vouvant, Mervent, etc

WOODPIGEON

very common

COLLARED DOVE

very common near habitation

TURTLE DOVE

common in farmland

TAWNY OWL

often heard at night at Le Moulin

HOOPOE

a few seen, not far from Le Moulin

KINGFISHER

lake on road to Vernoux 29/8

GREEN WOODPECKER

common, including Le Moulin

GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER

LESSER SPOTTED WOODPECKER

not uncommon, e.g. Vouvant

SWALLOW

very common – abundant, Le Moulin

HOUSE MARTIN

very common in villages

WHITE WAGTAIL

common in farms and villages near Le Moulin

GREY WAGTAIL

often flies over Le Moulin (and perhaps visits lake).  Also at Mervent (by water)

WREN

in woods close to Le Moulin

NIGHTINGALE

one close to Le Moulin

ROBIN

fairly common, including Le Moulin, often in song

BLACK REDSTART

often in villages and associating with houses close to Le Moulin

WINCHAT

fairly common (one seen top of lane from Le Moulin)

BLACKBIRD

common

BLACKCAP

a few still present, only heard calling

MELODIOUS WARBLER

one in song at Le Moulin à Drap

CHIFFCHAFF

fairly common, a few still in song

SPOTTED FLYCATCHER

one on 28/8 at L’oubrière/up the lane

PIED FLYCATCHER

one of the most numerous small birds present.  Very common almost everywhere (all in winter plumage).

GREAT TIT

quite common everywhere

BLUE TIT

less in evidence than Great Tit

MARSH TIT

several seen in forest between Mervent and Vouvant

LONG-TAILED TIT

common in Marais Poitevin

NUTHATCH

common at Le Moulin, Rocher Branlant, forest north of Mervent

SHORT TOED TREECREEPER

one at Rocher Branlant 29/8

MAGPIE

quite common, e.g. behind Le Moulin

JAY

common at Le Moulin

CARRION CROW

very common over farmland etc. Flies over Le Moulin

STARLING

very common everywhere

HOUSE SPARROW

very common, associated with farms, buildings, villages

CHAFFINCH

common

LINNET

a few in farmland

GOLDFINCH
